Computer Lab upstairs is reserved during second block for Bio II. If you have any problems getting into the lab call to the office, and tell them that Mr. Z reserved the computer lab for Bio II so the students can work on internet based lessons but another teacher has taken the lab.
Continue working on the Biochemistry Stuff. Emphasize that they may need to watch the videos more than once to fully understand the concepts. They should also be using the book to learn the material and fill out the notes sheets.
Book - Ch 3

Friday - 01-27-2012 - Bio II
Tell my ACADEC students to email me at my school email to get an electronic version of the interview sheet they need to fill out and return to me so that they can compete at State. Also tell them that they should have taken their permission slips to Ms. Mathis across the hall.
BIO II
Have them take the last quiz unless they do not want to take the 3rd quiz.
They should have all papers turned in from the Intro and Scientific Method Unit they have been working on.
Have them start on the next Unit (BioChemistry)
- If they want they can go to the computer lab - Upstairs Lab
They have a leg bones quiz Today - I think it is the leg. I have also attached the arm quiz just in case.
Take the attached image and copy it into a blank powerpoint and project it on the screen.
There is no word bank. I will email the answer key for the Student Aid to use to grade.
Thanks for all your help.

Thursday 01-26-2012 Biology II
Quizzes
-have students take another quiz - not the same version as before
-have student aid grade each quiz right away, write student names and scores on blank sheet of paper
-also have student aid collect quizzes from tuesday and write those scores on the same paper.
Students should then finish all remaining material from this unit.
Tell them to continue to take data on their seed lab and to complete the questions they can.
Also, they will turn in all the papers from this unit tomorrow after they take the last version of the quiz they have not yet taken. Some students may be happy with their previous quiz score and may decide not to take a 3rd version of the quiz.
Students will then begin the next unit listed on the blog.
Students may want to go to computer lab. I have reserved the upstairs computer lab for the next 4 school days I will be gone. Ask them if they want to go up to the lab to work after they check their lab and finish the quiz.
Also - have student add us a computer in the computer lab to copy the videos to the jump drives in the baggy on the desk. I have placed a biochemistry folder on the jump drive labeled Zim. Copy that folder to the others.

LAB
Start seed lab - all materials on the purple lab station. You will need to find graduated cylinders (located in the cabinet near the door to the classroom below the counter, directly to your left as you enter lab from classroom). Beakers are on the drying racks above sinks.
Tape your baggies to the walls of the fume hood. Make sure the light is on at all times. I have placed an example baggy (you can open to see how I made mine). I had to cut the paper towel so it would fit (scissors on middle lab station)
You will also have to make the miracle-gro solutions. I believe it is 50 ml at 5%. Depending on your Levels of Independent Variables you may choose to use different percent solutions.
Here is the calculation for determing % solution.
5% -- (.05g/ml)(50ml) = 2.5g -- Add 2.5g of miracle-gro to 50 ml of water.
10% example -- (.10g/ml)(50ml) = 5g of miracle-gro per 50 ml of water.
Scales are located in cabinet under middle lab station. When you turn on the scale, there should be nothing on the scale and you should wait until it shows a 0g before starting. Make sure to use a paper towel on the scale, and to zero the scale after placing the paper towel.
Check your seeds at the same time each day. Some of you may check them twice a day. Once in the morning and once after school.
Other Work
Complete the rest of the papers you have.
Watch the videos and post your notes on your blog
The flash drives with the videos are on my desk.
Your 1st quiz will be on Tuesday - Last Quiz on Thrusday
If you have questions please contact me via email - jzimmerman@k12tn.net

Let us begin
Begin watching videos and taking notes. 5 main points from each video.
Keep in mind that there will be much more than 5 things you will need to know.
Some of the videos overlap allowing you to have multiple learning chances.
Make yourself a check list or print the information.
Come to class with questions, so we can discuss.
I will also provide some info that will help you prepare for the quizzes and exams.
In addition, I will have review sessions the afternoon before the exam and the morning before the exam.
Please let me know if you having problems with the videos, blog, etc.
I may be able to fix them quickly while others will take time - my email is on the high school website.
